ALAMO Car Rental at Gran Canaria Airport
ALAMO Car Rental Services at Gran Canaria Airport
Gran Canaria Airport is located approximately 18 km from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital city of the island, and 25 km from southern areas of Gran Canaria. The airport is also nearby the areas of Ingenio, Telde, Playa de Melenara and Playa de Arinago, and is found in the Bay of Gando. Gran Canaria is one of Spain's famous Canary Islands, with lovely beaches, holiday resorts and many other attractions. For this reason, Gran Canaria Airport receives over nine million passengers per annum, and is the largest airport in the Canaries. It is also known as the Las Palmas Airport, or the Gando Airport. Gran Canaria Airport car hire companies such as Alamo can be found at the airport, for all car rental services, and Alamo is a popular choice for their reasonable rental rates.
At Gran Canaria Airport, Alamo is open from 07:00 to 23:00, and their rental counters can be found within the terminal building. Passengers will arrive at the airport on the ground floor, in the zone depending on from where their flight originated. Zone A will receive all arrivals from other European Union destinations, and Zone B is used for international arrivals from non-European Union areas. There is also Zone C, for all flights from the other islands in the region. The arrivals level of the airport is on the ground floor, and Alamo's offices are in the connecting passage between the international arrivals area and the European Union arrivals area (Zones A and B). The car hire companies can easily be reached on foot from the baggage reclaim areas or from the airport’s main arrival lobby.
Once passengers have arranged their vehicle from Alamo Gran Canaria Airport, they can proceed to the car park where the rented cars are located on the lower floor. Always confirm with Alamo which type of fuel must be used for your car and that all existing damages have been noted. Rented cars usually begin the car hire period with a full tank of full, and depending on the length of the rental, customers will either return their vehicles with a full or empty tank of fuel. For longer rentals, a full tank is usually paid for upfront, and the vehicle should be returned as empty as possible, as no refunds are given for unused fuel. Shorter rentals may allow the customer to simply return the vehicle with a full tank, or even just purchase half a tank and return the car half-full. The fuel stations on the island of Gran Canaria are internationally recognized brands, and are available frequently along most routes. However, perhaps start with a full tank if you are travelling to more remote parts of the island.
The GC-1 motorway passes directly on the western side of the airport, and is the major highway of the island. Drivers can either head south to many of the popular resort areas, or north, to the capital city of the island, known as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Customers who will not be returning to the airport can arrange a one way hire from Alamo, and deliver their cars to another Alamo rental location. One way hires from Gran Canaria may have additional costs, but are more convenient for certain rentals. Always confirm with Alamo if it is possible to take the vehicle on a ferry to other Canary Islands, if this is part of your travel itinerary.
Other services from Alamo include the rental of car seats for children, satellite navigation systems and luggage racks, and there may also be hand controls available for disabled drivers. From Gran Canaria Airport, hand controls should always be booked in advance, and are used free of charge. They operate the brake and accelerator pedals of an automatic vehicle, and may come with a steering wheel knob. Automatic cars hired by Alamo include the Citroen C4 1.6 in the Compact category, the Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6 in the Midsize Wagon category and the Citroen C5 2.0 in the Standard vehicle category. An automatic vehicle is also a better choice for those who are familiar with this type of vehicle, as a manual (stick-shift) can be tricky to operate, and you don’t want to spend your holiday learning how to drive!
Smaller cars available from Alamo include the Fiat Seicento 1.1 and Citroen C2 1.1, while larger cars and vans may be similar to the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.8 and Opel Vivaro 1.6, with room for up to nine passengers. Smaller cars in the Mini and Economy categories are budget friendly, and light on fuel as well, however, ensure that they have enough room for your luggage, as a too small car can prove to be most uncomfortable. Many of Alamo’s vehicles have some nice features, such as air conditioning, ABS brakes, airbags and power steering.
Gran Canaria Airport car rental companies require the primary renter and additional drivers listed on the rental contract to meet the minimum age requirement of 21 for the majority of car categories, and they must show a valid drivers license when collecting the car. All drivers must be present for the collection. Spanish Law requires all foreign drivers to have an International Driving Permit; however, this document will only be required by Alamo if the local license is printed in a non-Roman alphabet. Drivers from the United Kingdom must show both parts of their license.
Advanced reservations can be made from Alamo's website, at www.alamo.com, and further information is also available online. Customers can however confirm all details of their rental with Alamo, at Gran Canaria Airport.
